This assessment is intended to evaluate parenting strengths, challenges, and family functioning for clinical treatment planning.
Areas commonly assessed include:
Presenting concerns from referral source
Parent history including education, employment, medical, mental health, trauma, substance use, etc.
Child history including developmental milestones, medical concerns, mental health concerns, schools performance, peer relationships, behavior concerns, etc.
Parenting practices such as daily routine, discipline methods, etc.
Parent-child relationships and attachment patterns
Parenting strengths and stressors
Areas of concerns
Family dynamics and home environment
The child’s adjustment to home, school, and community
Mental health, substance use, or other factors that may impact parenting
History of domestic violence, abuse, neglect, or other safety concerns when relevant
The child’s needs, preferences, and overall wellbeing, when developmentally appropriate
The assessment is a clinical interview with the client. Collateral information will be reviewed, as appropriate. Findings and recommendations are presented in a written report to assist in making informed decisions regarding appropriate level of treatment. This is a therapeutic service that will typically be covered by insurance.
Please note: Individuals can be referred for parenting assessments by self, attorneys, courts, or child welfare agencies. This assessment is NOT a forensic parenting capacity evaluation and is not intended to provide opinions regarding custody, parental fitness, or legal-decision making (Please see “Services” page to see forensic services that are offered. We will refer client’s to appropriate services at the conclusion of the evaluation, if requested.
